STUDENTS: READ THIS FIRST
What is Chilean culture?
There is no short answer.

The Good News...

CONGRATULATIONS! You have been given an opportunity to study the culture of one of the most fascinating countries of Latin America: Chile. Within this site you will find a LOT of information about Chile, including its geography, recent history, economy, government, education, agriculture, the Mapuche Indians, and more. All of these things are part of Chilean culture. I have also provided links to many other sites which have additional information. You are most welcome to use any information you find here, and to use any photos that you see, provided that you list this site as your source.

The Big Myth...

Unfortunately, many students come to this site thinking that "Chilean Culture" will be a paragraph-long summary of weird looking people, strange customs, and ritualistic dances. If this is what you are looking for, you are going to be disappointed. Certainly, Chile is one of the most geographically complex, ethnically diverse, and economically stable countries of Latin America. Aside from some of the native Indian populations, however, most typical Chileans live daily lives similar to you and me. The term "Chilean Culture" refers to the things about this country that make it unique and the way typical people live; not just strange stuff.

Your Job as Student...

Hopefully, you have not waited until the last minute to start researching your project on Chile. In order to get a good picture of the people and culture of Chile, you will have to spend the time and effort to read the information I have provided. If you do, I promise you will find most, if not all of what you need to get a super grade on your project or report!

What I Won't Do...

  • Summarize Chile's complex culture for you.
  • Respond to e-mails asking for information that is readily available within this site.
  • Send you anything by postal mail.

Enjoy the Spotlight on Chile Web site.
I wish you great success in your studies!
